7 Irritations Only Women With Tattoos Will Understand

There  is no better permanent self-expression than a well-done tattoo. Of course, they’re not for everyone; kind of like blue lipstick isn’t for everyone, but do we say anything to THOSE people.. no.. we look away. As women are becoming more and more liberated (or trying), tattoos are becoming even more acceptable in modern society (not that we care).

I am definitely far from “tatted up”, but I do have a few tattoos and it’s enough to have gathered some knowledge on what it’s like to be a 2015 woman with some super cool body art.

Here are the biggest irritations only women with tattoos will understand:

  • Being Told “You’re Gonna Regret That”

Chances are we’re not going to “regret that” and even if we do.. let us deal with that later on. We got these tattoos because we loved them and wanted them on us permanently; that’s a big commitment that we probably thought out.

  • Having Older People Gawk At You In Public

**Bonus Irritation: They Talk Loud Enough for You to Hear Them Insult You

Nothing better then being in line to grab a coffee, looking over and seeing a few middle-aged people whispering to each other while obviously staring (and sometimes pointing) at your tattoos. Sometimes you even get the added bonus of them talking purposefully loud enough for you to hear that they HATE your tattoo and that they would NEVER do that. Sorry we can’t please you, Carol.

  • When Your Color Tattoos Clash With Your Outfit

Not a huge deal, but can lead to a little bit of irritation. Your yellow little bird on your arm may turn you into a walking McDonald’s advertisement with that new red dress, but worse things have happened.

  • Having To Cover Up For Work

Most shops, restaurants and companies aren’t about you showing off your ink at work. It’s getting better, but most of the time we are forced to cover. This is especially bad if you have a tattoo in the middle of your arm or leg (long sleeves in the summer is always an awful idea). But, hey, Urban Outfitters is always hiring? Don’t worry gals, it’ll all be better soon.

  • When Everyone Asks To See It + What It Means

If you have never been asked this, you probably don’t have a visible tattoo.. in which case you are kind of lucky. Yes you can see it. No it didn’t hurt that bad. That’s cool you wanna get one too.

Assuming it means something is kind of annoying for the people who just wanted some nice art. A lot of the time, people do have an explanation, but it also doesn’t mean they want to tell you about it: It could be personal!

Thank you for the compliments, but we are sick of explaining.

  • People Reminding You That “Men Don’t Like Women With Tattoos”

*Flips Hair*

Is there any water in that pool? I can’t even tell cause its so SHALLOW!!!!!

But, really, if you’re that big of a tool…. keep on walking.

People Assume That You Must Be A Lesbian, Do Drugs and Not Go To School.

If you are a lesbian who does drugs and happens to not go to school, DO YOU, BOO. But, often people think that if you have a tattoo at least one of these must be true. I’m sorry that my portrait of my dead cat leads you to these assumptions!

My Need-To-Have Fall Lipsticks

Lipstick is essential to me in my makeup routine. I could wear ONLY lipstick and i’d be satisfied. When Fall rolls around, I get super excited that I can wear my dark shades day or night.

IMG_2450

Lipstick is universal. Every woman can find a shade that works for them (or that is a total disaster).. and almost everyone has a go-to shade. I definitely have my tight, trusty crew of colors that work for every outfit.

Here are some of my favorite FALL shades that I can’t wait to start using again:

Before you apply any lipstick or stain, be sure to lather your lips with a moisturizer or lip balm!

My favorite moisturizer is The Body Shop’s Lip Butter ($7.00). It’s a miracle worker.

Lipstick #1: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in the shade Bauhau5

IMG_2416 IMG_2418

(Fun fact: That little nub of a stick is all that is left. I have used and abused this lipstick)

This is MY lipstick. It’s described as a matte deep raspberry. This shade virtually has nothing wrong with it. It is good for day or night, not only during fall.. I wear this all year, and it stays on. When it does start to fade, it leaves behind a beautiful berry kiss. The formula is lush and smooth. I’m very pale, but this shade looks good on every skin tone. Once I run out, and I’ve had this a long time, I will definitely have to get another. This is one YOU NEED TO TRY.

PRICE: $21.00 (available at Sephora)

Lipstick #2: MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in the shade Ruby Woo

IMG_2419 IMG_2420

(Just like Bauhau5, I’ve used this one down to a small, little nub)

It’s no secret that MAC owns the lipstick game. I only own two of them (Ruby Woo and Diva) and they’ve completely met my expectations. The pigmentation in Ruby Woo is ridiculous. When people say they’re looking for that “perfect red”, IT’S RUBY WOO. This shade lasts allllll day. It’s such a classically beautiful look and will stand through fashion seasons to come. The formula is very comfortable and soft; it never flakes. I think every girl should own this (unless you hate red).

PRICE: $17.00 (available on MAC Cosmetics website)

Lipstick #3: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in the shade MÖtorhead

IMG_2430 IMG_2431

(This is a smaller size lipstick from a variety pack I got for Christmas)

Yet, another Kat Von D shade. I’m a big fan of her lipsticks and have you seen that packaging? Black studs.. how can you not. This shade is obviously QUITE dark, and it’s definitely not an everyday shade (unless you want to, then work it girl). It gives every look an edgy, badass twist. For me, the only time I would even dare to wear this is nighttime during Autumn. The application is a little tough since this shade is crazy dark; if you miss, it stains your face. But, it’s all worth it to turn into a grunge princess.

Price: $21.00 (for a full size, available at Sephora)

Lipstick #4: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Copenhagen

IMG_2437

(Soft tip applicator, not a typical lipstick tube)

If you haven’t heard great things about these yet, I’m gonna blow a little more sunshine up its tube. These are fantastic lipsticks. They stay on all day, barely flake until you go crazy eating something and have an insane pigmentation. Copenhagen is a burnt cherry/burgundy shade.. which SCREAMS Fall. It’s soft as butter and makes your lips feel amazing. Try this one and them all.

PRICE: $5.99 (Available at ULTA) — you really can’t beat this price.

IMG_2435 IMG_2436

(It looks lighter in the second pic, not sure why, it’s accurate to the first picture)

Lipstick #5: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in the shade Lovecraft

IMG_2443 IMG_2444

Can you tell I adore Kat’s lipsticks yet?

This is an awesome shade if you’re looking for a taupe-nude. I normally steer away from these kinds of shades since I am so pale, but this one is actually wearable! I really like the color because it has a slightly pinky undertone. If I can feel comfortable in this shade, anyone can (seriously). It’s very nice for daytime during fall and can basically match anything you’re wearing (maybe unless you’re wearing taupe). Quality is just like the other Studded Kiss Lipsticks I mentioned.

PRICE: $21.00 (Available at Sephora)

I hope this was helpful in your journey for some great fall shades!

Thanks so much for reading

“Is Summer Over Yet?” — A Guide For Fall Lovers

You like summer, but only for a little while, and you just can’t wait for cooler, cozier temperatures and everything that fall has to offer. You look forward to dark lipsticks, halloween and sweaters. People don’t understand you when you start talking about Fall and it’s still August. You post pictures of fall leaves and dream in sepia tones. Does this person sound familiar? IT’S YOU. You are a Fall fanatic and no one can stop you.

Don’t worry, no judgement here. I am a through and through fall fiend. The cool, crisp air   and the leaves falling bring me pure joy. I stock up on my fall candles way earlier then a person should. I refuse to buy clothes until the fall lines come out at stores. Believe me.. I get it.

If you’re slowly dying and wishing this summer season were over, here are some things you can do to prepare and ease the pain:

Start Making A Fall Playlist

The best way to build a playlist is slowly, over time, and right now you have plenty of it. Throw some of your past favorites on it and start listening for new and unheard music that you would love to add. (I always go for an indie/alternative mix for Fall.) If you’re in a store and hear a track you need, just google the lyrics and BOOM.. added to the list. Spotify is a great place to make your playlist or choose from one they already offer. They have an endless supply of artists and songs to choose from (except for Taylor Swift) and it’s only $5-10 dollars a month for Premium (worth it).

Prepare.. The.. Wardrobe..

This can be a difficult task if you’re on a student budget like I am. But, do not fear, the sales are here. Check the sale section and current promotions of each store through their website. With a new season approaching, stores will be shoving deals down our throats so keep your eyes open. If you start getting a few things now, you can gradually build up the wardrobe until you have enough to get you through the cold. Don’t be afraid of too much denim this year, either. It is EVERYWHERE.

Rose, Plum and Ruby, too.

Fall is an amazing time for lip color. You can rock a bold, crazy lip and nobody can say anything because it makes sense. If you can afford the higher end lipsticks, Bite Beauty has some amazing matte lipsticks in the Frozen Berries collection which you should definitely check out. If you stick with drugstore brands, you can’t go wrong with NYX matte lip creams.

Warm Up Your Bedroom

Pull a few extra fuzzy blankets out of the closet. Locate your heater. Have everything on deck for those chilly nights that you just wanna cozy up and watch Netflix. Hang up some twinkle lights (christmas lights work too) and use those as your primary light source.

Countdown to…

Pumpkin Spice Latte, girl. We still have a little over a month til it arrives, but it’s not too early to get excited. Even if you need to grab a decaf, do it. These things are truly great and take you from August to September in one sip. Another great option if the caffeine is too much to bear: Chai Tea Latte.

It’s Never Too Early To Bake

That’s right.. FOOD. If you’re a fan of the pumpkin, apple or cinnamon flavors, the Fall possibilities are endless. Make some delicious muffins, cookies, cake… just whatever your heart desires, basically. It’s always okay to have a cheat day if you’re worried about your figure. Grab a friend or your love and have a baking party.

*I’LL HAVE SOME RECIPES ON THE BLOG SOON*

Bright Little Flicker

The absolute holy mecca of Fall to me is CANDLES. If you share in the excitement and joy for Fall scents, they are already available at White Barn and Bath and Body Works. I just picked up Sweater Weather (one of my favorites) and it is too good. Autumn is nothing without a candle, no matter where it’s from. Fill your home with a warm, welcoming scent ASAP.

Sign Up Now For Exercise

Even if you don’t have any goals when it comes to improving your body, exercise is always a great thing. Now is the time to pick a gym, or even a workout class you would be more interested in, and sign up. Try to recruit a friend to join with you so you can have an instant workout buddy to harass. Keep your blood flowin’ when you can’t get outside for a few months.

September is almost here, so stay strong and push these last few weeks. If you’re going back to school, Fall will hit you in the face before you know it. We must stick together Fall Lovers! It’s never too early.

“I’m not a stick anymore, but I’m doing okay”

“Hey I didn’t know a whale was coming to the pool tonight,” said a little boy to me as I passed a group when I was 10 years old at our local swimming pool– the first person to ever make me feel self conscious.

To sum up some history before we begin…..A few years ago, I took a trip with my close friends Sam, Michele and Zack. We went on a lovely tropical vacation to Punta Cana and it will forever be one of the best memories I will have. I was fresh out of high school and excited for the future. But, one thing was still holding me back and causing me serious torment: the voice in my head telling me my body was wrong. I went on my trip, had a great time and came back home to look through the tons of pictures we took. There was only one thing I could focus on..my weight. I could barely stand to see myself in these pictures. I have always been a junk food queen because of my pickiness in foods that I actually like but I hadn’t realized how far I had let myself go. To others I was ‘normal’ weight but I couldn’t just be ‘normal’. I didn’t feel comfortable. So I started dieting and exercising. From October 2012 – June 2013 I lost a total of 36 pounds. To be quick.. I went to school in the city, stopped working out, drank a lot and ultimately stopped caring about my “fitness”.

My self-esteem quickly plummeted. I no longer felt confident in clothes, my skin wasn’t shining like it used to, but ultimately I felt okay. I was back in control of my life and there was no constant voice telling me to count calories and exercise.

My first week at college

Fast forward to today, leaving those habits over two years in the past, and I’m doing okay. I still exercise now and then (not everyday) but not to the point of overexertion. I try to eat healthy but I’m human and also I have a chocolate addiction so I’ve gained a little weight. My arms aren’t the rock hard muscle machines that I made them anymore and my stomach has gained a little pudge leaving behind the toned tummy I once had. I can’t lie and say sometimes I don’t get discouraged and even upset about myself but I’ve learned to know my body and I know this will help me become who I want to be.

Today (i’ve gained 10 pounds)

I’m not fat, nor do I think I’m fat. I’m a healthy weight. I still get called “tiny” and “small” and guess what? I don’t go to bed starving anymore.

To those who sometimes don’t feel comfortable in their skin.. this is my advice to you:

1. You Can Be Beautiful and Confident At Any Size

I know.. hard to believe this when media is shoving skinny and toned down your throat (and if you ARE skinny and toned good for you, girl!! that’s awesome) but..there are other body types aside from slim and tiny. I am a firm believer in shining from the inside out. If you get yourself in a good place mentally anything is possible physically.

2. Do NOT crash diet.. PLEASE.

If you want to lose weight the healthy way, put yourself on a natural, whole food diet change. Replace the processed foods America loves for things from nature, or close to nature. I’m talking fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts, legumes, and low fat dairy. If you stick with these foods and don’t overeat.. I can 100% guarantee you will see a difference in your reflection within a few weeks. ALL THOSE OTHER DIETS OFTEN END IN BINGE EATING AND GIVING UP.

3. Do Not Go To Tumblr and Instagram For Your ‘Thinspiration’

Especially under that hashtag. Most of those girls (and boys) are suffering from real, severe eating disorders and should not be administering diet advice. There is no reason you should eat a total of 200 calories a day (half of which are crackers and diet coke). The pictures you see are seriously ill people and should not be idolized.

4. Understand Your Body Type

Each body is constructed differently. Some girls can NEVER have a thigh gap, sticking out collar bones or that new asian thing where you wrap your arm all the way around your back to your waist to see if your skinny or not (if you don’t know what I’m talking about feel free to look it up). I’m sure there are other wacky ideas for what makes you ‘thin’ out there: Ignore them please and find your own ‘what makes me feel good’

5. Being Curvy is ‘Acceptable’

As sad as it is that we have to wait for something with our image to be ‘acceptable’ in modern society, guess what girls? Boobs, butt and thighs are in.. and bigger than ever (literally). Nicki, Beyonce, Kim and more have been flaunting their good goods and giving us the green light on saying yes to that bowl of pasta and maybe even a doughnut without tons of regret.

So no matter how you look, no matter what you’ve been through (or maybe if you’re going through something now), no matter what anyone has said to you..

  • Realize YOUR beautiful
  • Know your limits
  • Keep yourself healthy

MET Gala Fashion 2015 – The Good and The WHAT

The time has come again for fashions finest to showcase their work on celebrities at the Met Gala 2015. The event, which was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, took place May 4th with an interesting theme: China: Through the Looking Glass.

Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Reese Witherspoon, and more took to their Twitter and Instagram accounts early Monday morning to announce their excitement for the evening.

Alexa Chung, Emma Roberts, and Ellie Goulding showed off their hair and makeup via their personal Instagram accounts on the way to the Gala. Ellie captioned her photo “On my way to a low key event”. Well, girl, you’ve got us Starry Eyed.

If there is one time of year to make a big fashion statement and get some recognition.. THIS IS IT.

Who can forget VERY PREGNANT Kim’s floral print dress that stole the red carpet and kept people talking for weeks (not necessarily in a good way)?

Kim wasn’t the only one from the Kardashian clan to show up to the event. Kris and Kendall were both present.

rs_634x1024-150504170544-634.Kendall-Jenner-Breasts-met-Gala.jl.040515

Kendall looked like a green goddess in her Calvin Klein gown.

With huge names and huge fashion at this event, It was hard to choose the best of the night, but I narrowed it down to three BEAUTIFUL ladies:

First, Lady Gaga came and stunned us with her Alexander Wang gown. She not only looked awesome as usual, but she COMPLETELY worked the theme. Looking like a geisha queen, she shut down the red carpet.

Gaga taking us to China town with this fabulous look.

And who could even pretend to ignore the Queen B? She came in and caused a buzz with her Givenchy dazzling, sparkling gown. It covered just enough for us to truly appreciate that unearthly body that Beyoncé owns. I was expecting something great from her, and she exceeded my expectations!

1430791962_beyonce-met-gala-carpet-zoom

I mean…. Just look at her stance. Completely gorgeous look. Beyoncé: 1,000 points. Everyone Else… 0.

The last look that earned a spot in this top 3 is the lovely Jessica Chastain. She was a golden goddess shining like a star in the sky. Although she didn’t quite work the theme into her look, she has classic Hollywood style DOWN. She is a true beauty and it shows in her Givenchy gown.

Now for the not-so-good:

Cara Delevigne normally works red carpet events, but last night she certainly did not stand out as a best dressed nominee. She came in a simple, black ensemble by Stella McCartney. She was covered in painted on tattoos of asian-inspired flowers to incorporate the theme, but it did not make up for the outfit, girl.

cara-delevingne-01-600x800

Is that a can of Green Tea Arizona? Oh, wait no.. It’s Cara Delevigne.

The next to make the list is the one, the only Sarah Jessica Parker. She can normally own the fashion scene, I mean she was on Sex and The City, come on. But, last night, although she totally worked in the theme (she basically became the theme) it was a bit of a nightmare. She looked a bit horrifying.

"China: Through The Looking Glass" Costume Institute Benefit Gala

Just too much going on, SJP.

Overall, it seems the Gala was a success with memorable looks to last us until next year. What can they surprise us with next?
