Hellos and Goodbyes

When you’re young, everything feels infinite and wonderful; there are butterflies flying around outside, you can be a princess or a dinosaur, and the sun is shining all the time. There is no time to worry or be sad, unless we don’t get ice cream when we REALLY want ice cream (or was that just me?).

We never thought about sickness, until we or someone we know is suddenly battling with it. We never thought about death, until we saw our first relative or family friend die. We never think about life fully when we’re young, because there is no need for us to. I think that preserving innocence is one of the most beautiful things in the world, because after it’s gone, it’s gone.

But, now that I’m all grown up, I’ve witnessed a decent amount of things. Some of them have been absolutely beautiful, like seeing and feeling love and embracing nature for it’s true beauty. But, some of them have been the hardest things in the entire world, like witnessing all the sickness and death of my loved ones. That’s life. It isn’t meant to be easy for anyone, and we all go through things, both good and bad.

So, this last week has been a total roller coaster..

I had mentioned in one of my last posts that my Grandpa was put on life support and was fighting for his life. I didn’t get into detail because I didn’t feel it necessary. After over a week battling, I am very saddened to say that last night, around 7 PM, we lost him. He had finally let go. Through all his suffering, he has finally found peace and this makes the pain a little bit easier to cope with for my family and myself.

My Grandpa and Grandma several years back

Death is never easy. It isn’t like once you see a few, you’re able to brush it off like it’s nothing. Each individual death drills a hole through the heart. This one was especially difficult.

We all love my Grandpa so much, and he we always be in our hearts. It’s good to know that he is reunited with my Grandma once again. RIP Grandpa Arias.

But, through all the sadness and disaster, there has also been some good.

On Saturday, my Family and I all went to a wedding for my cousin Shaun. Of course, things were very stressful given the condition of my Grandpa. But, we all still were together to witness love and life.

It was a very nice wedding and I had way too much food (as usual). And in true Emily fashion, I dropped my vodka and orange juice all over the dance floor, shattering my glass.

IMG_0080.JPG

One of my favorite highlights of the night was the photo booth. I am a sucker for them and of course me and Tom took complete advantage.

IMG_0039

So, through everything, we made the best of the wedding and continued to think about my Grandpa, as did the rest of the family.

In all of the tragedy, I’m blessed to know that there will also be a new life coming into our family in May! My brother Tim and his girlfriend Ashley are expecting a beautiful baby girl and my family and I couldn’t be more excited.

She will be very spoiled, and you can expect to see a whole lot of her when she arrives in the spring.

Until next time,

Emily

Fall Beauty Obsessions

I should probably just get it tattooed on me at this point.. I’m obsessed with Fall. I’m going to share with you all what I’ve been loving so far into this season. I didn’t get a chance to do a “september favorites” post.. so here is my kinda september favorites and kinda october favorites collection of stuff:

Essie Nail Polishes

 IMG_2845

Until recently, I was a total ONLY O.P.I kinda girl. I really don’t have any reasoning behind that other than I thought they were the best and I liked how the color turnout was. But, I bought the purple polish in the shade ‘Bahama Mama’ back in September and really liked how it looked. Then, just a few days ago I purchased the coppery-gold shade ‘Leggy Legend’ and it is SO PERFECT for this time of year. It’s on my nails now and I’m very obsessed. Sorry for cheating on you O.P.I

PRICE: $8.50 each (I got mine at Ulta)

Midnight Romance by Ralph Lauren

IMG_2846

I’m very picky when it comes to fragrances. I rarely like any and I have to smell the entire perfume section at Sephora to figure out which one I like. This one really INTRIGUED me. It has a almost fruity, sultry scent and I am into it. I would suggest it, but everyone has super different opinions on fragrance.

Also, the next fragrance I’m looking to buy is Elizabeth & James (aka Mary Kate + Ashley Olsen) Nirvana Black. It is suppper rich and almost manly.. just my kind of perfume.

PRICE (for Midnight Romance): $54.00 at Sephora

Skin Saviors

IMG_2847

I have the driest skin known to mankind. My hands get absolutely awful the second the weather changes (but really I have problems in the summer too). Absolutely no other lotion works for my hands other than Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Hand Cream. This stuff is AMAZING. It isn’t greasy and gross like lots of other lotions and it absorbs super quick. This is my second container of it. Also, I have to have my Body Shop Lip Butter because these lips crack super easy. It hydrates your lips all day and tastes good as a bonus.

PRICE: Gold Bond – Around $5.00 at any drugstore

Body Shop Lip Butter – $7.00

All The Naked Palettes (almost)

IMG_2848

The hype is true.. these are amazing. I’ve had the first Naked Palette for a super long time. I think I got it the Christmas after it came out. Since I sparingly use eyeshadows, all of my colors are still intact. I love each one separately and can’t pick a favorite. Here’s the simple way to identify them: Naked 1: Super Natural Tones 2. Smoky Eyes and Cool Tones 3. Pinky Tones

They are each around $54.00 which is kinda pricey compared to your average drugstore eyeshadows (obviously) but these are so worth it. I have yet to get the Naked Smoky palette because I rarely wear any super dark eye looks.

Lorac Pro, Naked Flushed and Dream BB

IMG_2849

I got the Lorac Pro before last Christmas and didn’t really get around to using it much until Summer. These shadows have such good color payoff and are all really gorgeous. I usually mix the shades from this with shades from the Naked Palettes. It’s definitely one of my favorites that I own.

The Naked Flushed palette was given to me by my good friend (I know she’s so nice) and I have really been liking it. I am usually terrified of blushes because I always feel like I over-do it.. but the pink shade in here is really subtle and natural. I’m a fan. It also has a bronzer and highlighter inside. It’s a super nice little package.

I use the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream very often (like everyday often) because it’s super light and the coverage is perfect for me. I have like exceptionally clear skin for how bad I am at taking care of it, so I don’t need a whole lot of coverage. It also acts as a moisturizer and sunscreen which I really appreciate.

PRICES:

Lorac Pro: $42.00 on their website

Naked Flushed: $32.00 at Sephora

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream: $6.29 at Target

Sunglasses

IMG_2850

These aren’t just any sunglasses.. They’re PRESCRIPTION sunglasses. When I found out about these cheap prescription sunglasses I was literally the happiest person ever. I have really bad vision (like so bad I can’t see anything but BLUR without my glasses on) and these allow me to finally see out of SUNGLASSES. I got them on Eyebuydirect.com. It’s one of those cheap glasses websites where you tell them your prescription and they make them for you. It’s a pretty great deal. They go with almost everything I wear too (I also have a different black pair).

Candles and More Candles

IMG_2853

I worked at Bath and Body Works.. I worked at White Barn.. and I can officially say that I know my candles. There is nothing that brings me more joy than getting new candles. I am especially in love with every single fall scented candle that exists pretty much. I picked up Sweater Weather and Leaves from White Barn a few weeks ago and I can’t stop burning them. Also I had to include one of my all-time favorite candles Woodwick Campfire Marshmallow.. this one lasts forever (even though mine is almost gone) and smells so good. It also crackles while it burns!

Try to go to Bath and Body Works or White Barn during a sale like 2 for $24. They happen all the time so just check in once in a while. Otherwise they’re $22.50 each for a 3-wick which is just ridiculous.

There is no such thing as too many candles. GO CRAZY.

Thanks for reading everyone and welcome new followers!

xoxo Emily

I Got My Haircut

Hello lovely followers! I hope you’re all having a great week so far. I’ve been very busy recently with some non-blog related personal stuff.. but I’m constantly thinking and working on my upcoming posts (there will be loads on things coming).

A few days ago, I got super fed up with my shoulder length, uneven layered pixie grow out style. I have never really liked having hair longer than my collar bone. I’ve always felt it was unflattering with my face and I just always want to chop it off (hence why I cut my hair off 3 times into a pixie cut).

This time, I wanted to cut it into a sort of Mod-inspired 1960’s style. I went for a blunt (just above) chin length bob. It evened out all of my layers, which will make it easier to grow out without wanting to run for scissors.

I absolutely love how it turned out. It’s so easy to style and makes me feel way cuter on the DAILY.

I’ll post more pictures below:

BIG BOOB PROBLEMS

D-Cup and up, what’s up?

If you are a member of the heavy-chested gang, you have probably dealt with several irritating incidents that have made you want to saw them off with a butter knife (or is that just me?). This isn’t to say that I don’t love my body, because I do, and sometimes I feel very blessed to have the assets that I do.. but there are times that I just CAN’T STAND THEM.

If you’ve ever been puzzled why women would ever want gigantic boobs, then read on and relate to these issues only girls with big boobs have:

  • Finding a bikini top is so….hard…

There are tons of things that can go wrong while trying to find a bikini top. You grab an XL cause it’s the only size that can fit your boobs, but then its WAY too big for your waist. You finally find a size that fits you.. AND ITS HIDEOUS. There are not a lot of options for gals with big boobs in the swimwear world.

This year I found mine on ASOS. They have a whole section for “DD+ Swimwear” which is a total lifesaver.

  • Clothes Don’t Fit Over Your Boobs

Finding adorable clothes that you think you can fit in, then you go in the dressing room and want to cry.. yeah we’ve all been there. Just stick to oversized and stretchy materials and you should have a shot. But, you can completely scratch button-up shirts off your shopping list, cause those will never happen.

  • Having a Serious Love/Hate Relationship with Them

Some days you wake up and feel like a super-fab chick and are ready to go out and work your body, and other days you want to wear a huge, oversized sweater and a scarf and hope no one can see the monsters under your shirt. It happens.

And don’t pretend like you’ve never researched breast reduction surgery!

  • Working Out Can Be Rough

Just one sports bra is not enough, we need two of them! Low-cut, adorable fitness outfits are a no, we will be there in an oversized t-shirt hoping that while we’re on the elliptical, no is noticing the BOUNCE.

  • Bending Over in a Low-Cut Top

Self-Explanatory.. and annoying.

  • All Weight Gain Seems to go to Them

How does this new bra I just got barely fit anymore? Oh, right, I ate too much last night. For some reason, fat seems to find its way into your boobs even though we all know we don’t need it.

  • Body-Con Dress = Instant Porn Star

Deciding on a body-con dress can be awesome for a night out on the town for any normal woman.. but, when you are dealing with more in the chest area.. you can instantly turn in to an x-rated film star. But, you will totally be the envy of every girl on the dancefloor, so WORK IT.

  • Bralettes Are Cute, But Will Never Happen

They’ve been pretty big in fashion under tank tops and sweaters as a comfy alternative to a full-on-bra, and they just look so dainty and cute.. but they just will never happen. It’s like trying to fit a watermelon in a sock.

  • BRAS ARE SO EXPENSIVE

Victorias Secret and Pink just cannot contain the madness under your top, usually. If you a D or DD, you can sometimes find some that sort-of work, but they just aren’t made for girls like us.
So we are left to getting ugly, specialty bras that can cost $100.

We NEED MORE OPTIONS!

September 1: OUTFIT OF THE DAY + Favs

I hope everyone is having a terrific FIRST DAY OF SEPTEMBER.

I’m just doing a short post today, because there is so much going on today! (I will be back with a longer post hopefully tomorrow)

Fall Lovers, we’re one step closer!

Although the weather is insanely hot today (upper 80’s), I wanted to do a super-easy Outfit for fall. I may have died a little bit outside while getting a picture in this outfit. But, this is one I will definitely wear when the weather chills out a bit:

IMG_2466

So this outfit is super comfy for FALL!

The dress is H&M.

The sweater is Urban Outfitters.

The oxfords are from (pac sun I wanna say??)

I’m very comfy in these and think they will be great for sitting in class or doing some internship stuff. Without the cardigan, this dress is super dressy and nice.

And here’s my simple. matte makeup:

IMG_2484 IMG_2485

Items used:

Naked 2 Palette

Stila In The Know Palette.

Benefit Big Easy Foundation

Naked Flushed Blush

Smashbox Gel Eyeliner in Black

Maybelline Mega Plush Mascara

(AND NO LIPSTICK, I’M FREAKING OUT..)

Here are some of my September essentials for this year:

IMG_2458

Sweater Weather from White Barn. This thing is heaven and perfect for the leaves starting to change. Be sure to pick it up (but make sure they’re having a sale.. cause nobody wants to pay $22.50 for one candle).

IMG_2453

Yes Please by Amy Poehler. I read this book a few months ago, but I plan on re-reading cause it is SO GOOD. It’s funny, sentimental, somewhat emotional at points and heartwarming. I love Amy, and this made me love her even more. Definitely recommend checking it out.

IMG_2452

BASIC ALERT!! Honestly, I don’t think I’d be able to go the whole month of September without having my Chai Tea Latte (hot or iced, I don’t care). These things are great if you don’t want a huge amount of caffeine. So good.

Have a great rest of your day!
